Have you looked at your site lately? What do you think your visitors feel when they come there? Are they impressed by how tied together it all is, does it show how professional you are?

You might not realize but how professional a site looks can mean a big difference in the bottom line. You see if people know you are confident enough in your business, and you are making enough with your site to afford having a great looking page you are able to get more sales. They will just have more confidence in you.

Professional graphics do a lot to help your bottom line, in fact. To start with, a better looking page is just more presentable. People like to look at pretty things, and if your site is nice looking they are likely going to stay there longer, if they stay longer, you have a better chance of getting the conversion you want. This means your opt-in or squeeze pages as well, where the whole idea is to get their email address.

Most sites on the Internet have some kind of opt-in box where they are asking their visitors to opt-in to the site’s list. This is a great way for the owner of the site to increase their own income, and it is a great way for visitors to get more information from the site when there are specials and new products. Unfortunately, spam has affected all of us and one of the biggest problems now is getting people’s attention and getting them to opt-in.

That is why you need to call more attention to your opt-in boxes with professional graphics. The graphics will make your opt-in box stand out from all of the other information on your site. It can be the one graphic that ties the whole site together, and it also brings more attention to your offer for the email address, because the graphics make it impossible to ignore.

Now, the graphics aren’t going to do all of the work for you. You still have to make a great opt-in offer to your visitors, or they simply won’t want to give you their email address. To do this, just give them access to secret files, let them into your members area, show them coupon codes or even information on how to save money in your niche. There is a lot you can do here. Think of what would be of value to your visitor.

Remember those questions at the beginning of the article? Regardless of how you answered them, the ultimate question is “how can you be sure?” The answer is that you have to test different images to see which ones perform best.

Luckily, you now have instant access to the Graphical Optin Box collection. Visit http://www.graphicaloptinboxes.com and you’ll appreciate the number of options available, so you can test different options.

The first job is to speak directly to your audience, and the second job is to speak to the search engines. Doing both of these jobs will maximize your website’s potential. Your website will be more search engine friendly, and it will enhance your efforts and chances of getting to the top of the search engines, as well as turn more prospects into leads and paying customers.

Let’s take a look at the two jobs you must accomplish when writing your website content:

Job #1: Speak to your audience. What message would you like to get across to your website visitors? What is your business’ unique selling point? What action do you want them to take when they get to your website? Your content should speak directly to your audience-and these are the questions you should be asking yourself when writing your website content. Your words should make an impression, yet be simple and easy to grasp. You want your website to sell your product or service, while at the same time having a human tone that’s easy to read.

Job #2: Be attractive to search engines. Your website content is one of the main ways the search engines, like Google and Yahoo, find your website. If your business sells SEO services in New York City-that should be clear to the search engines by using keyword rich web content. Yes, search engines read title tags and meta tags, but they also look at what’s inside.

So, how can you develop a website that does both jobs, speaks to your audience and attracts the search engines, while maintaining a delicate balance between the two? Here’s how:

1. Write for your audience. Don’t try to plug in keywords right away-just write for your audience. Speak to them directly, and tell them, as clearly as you can, what they should know.

2. Think about your keywords. Imagine someone were searching the internet for what your business does. What words would they search for? Make a list of what comes to mind.

3. Get some insight. Use the Google keyword tool to get other keyword ideas and determine their popularity. This will give you other keywords that might be relevant, and it will also show you how many searches there are for each word or phrase.

4. Refine the list. You might have a giant list of keywords by now. The goal isn’t to use all of them in your website. Just the keywords that are really related to your business. Come up with a list of 20 keywords or less, and try to use them throughout the website. Short keywords are easier to use than long phrases, so you might be able to use them more frequently.

5. Be specific. Keep in mind that specific keywords are better than general ones. Maybe you are a website designer. The term website designer is very general, but the phrase, affordable website design in New York is more specific, and will have a better chance of getting your website listed when someone searches for it. Google will likely rank hundreds of other sites above yours for the term website designer, so by thinking in specifics you have a better shot at showing up.

6. Add keywords accordingly. Chances are-some keywords have already slipped into what you’ve written. That’s great! Now it’s time to enhance what you have written. Take a look at your content from a search engine point of view. Where can you use a keyword instead of a general word? Where can you replace a keyword that’s already there with a better or more specific one?

7. Re-read your website content from your prospects point of view. Remember, your potential customers are your main audience. The keywords should be integrated seamlessly, and should get across information rather than be repetitive or obvious. Try not to be too redundant because you want to keep your website visitor in mind from a sales perspective.

Having keyword rich content throughout your website is one of the many important ways to get attention from search engines and ultimately get you the results you’re looking for.
If you keep in mind that you have two audiences, the prospects who are visiting and reading your website, and the search engines who are searching for it, you’re sure to build a website that gets the most results possible.

If your website is up, and that’s the best you can say about it, no doubt you’ve got the “web woes”.

Web woes are what happens when your website is under-performing…. or not performing at all. Unfortunately this situation happens far too often.

Many business owners don’t do their due diligence in selecting a web developer. They see a pretty site….nice colors, maybe lots of flash and some cool music …and decide: “Wow! This is what we want.” Some hire designers to develop websites only to discover the end result isn’t what they expected. Not surprising cause web developers and web designers are not necessarily one and the same.

Some of the best developers I know are just that — professionals who develop or build sites. They do the coding and all the back end work, make sure the navigation is intuitive and that the site works across multiple platforms and browsers. And some of the worst sites I’ve seen were done by graphic designers who decided to become developers. Armed with minimal knowledge of what goes into a workable website, the end result is pretty much useless other than as an online brochure.

Fortunately, websites that don’t work can be fixed. Yes, it’s not fun to have to redo a site you just paid someone to build. But that’s one of the downsides of being an entrepreneur. You’re going to make mistakes. Especially if you’re trying to save money and work with the lowest bidder. Or write your own copy even if you’re not much of a copywriter. Or if you don’t know the right questions to ask upfront when you’re hiring “professionals”.

So let’s look at some fixes for the site that isn’t working. What needs to be done to turn your website into the profitable marketing tool it was meant to be?

1. Can a visitor to your site easily understand what you’re selling or offering? Or are the benefits hidden in a lot of overblown marketing hype?

The Fix: Say what you do. No gibberish. If you offer the most complete selection of scuba diving gear in the Midwest, say so. Clearly and simply. On the Home page as well as the Products page.

2. Is your copy reader-friendly? Or is it loaded with confusing technical jargon?

The Fix: Hire a copywriter who knows how to write for the web. Get rid of the formal, grammatically perfect copy. A website is a direct marketing tool. Think one-on-one. Write the way you talk when you’re having a conversation with a potential client.

3. Is the site navigation intuitive or is finding information a nightmare?

The Fix: Sit down with a few people who know little or nothing about what you offer. Have them go to your site and find a few specific items. You’ll know pretty quickly where there are problems. Get them fixed so that a visitor can get anything he needs with no more than three clicks.

4. Are fonts large enough to read without straining your eyes? Or is tiny type used to make the site look hip and cool? Or lots of reverse (white) type on a dark background.

The Fix: Don’t make it tough for people to read your copy. As it is, you have no control over how people’s monitors are set. So stick with Web-friendly fonts in sizes that people can read. And keep in mind that reverse type is generally not easy to read on screens. Use it sparingly!

5. Are there blinking lights and moving objects that have no particular relevance to what you do?

The Fix: Unless you’re an artist, musician or designer who uses Flash to highlight your work, Trash the Flash! It’s distracting and annoying…especially on a PDA or cell phone where downloading might be slow.

6. Is your contact info easily found and on every page? Emails are great but not when you’re in a hurry and hungry.

The Fix: Simple. Put your phone number on every page - in the header or footer works. Bold-faced and near the top of the page is even better. And if you have instant messaging, put that on too. Make it easy for your customers to reach you.

7. Do pages come up quickly or is there a lag time while the site loads? Few things are more annoying online than waiting for a site to load.

The Fix: Make the images smaller and lower resolution. If you can’t do it, a designer or developer can. Plus, a developer can check to see how your site comes up on all of the different platforms using all of the various browsers - in case (say it isn’t so) this was never done when your site was first launched.

8. Does your site come up quickly in search? Or are you on page 4 while all your competitors are in the top ten?

The Fix: Get your site optimized for search engines. This could be as simple as some rewrites to add more keywords and phrases to your copy. Or adding page titles. Or subheads in boldface. Or, depending on how your site was initially designed, might involve a full redesign. If you have an older site that was built using frames, or keywords that are hidden as graphics, or key search terms way down at the bottom of the page - or no key search terms (yep, it happens!), you’ll need a redesign.

The good news is that bad websites can be fixed. And, if done right, web woes can be turned into web wonders!

The succeeding article is about marketing self published books, Internet Marketing Promotion, Book Marketing Services, and many other useful tips about online book marketing.

After a long while, you finally got to publish your book.

With such an important product to promote, you’ve decided to create a website for your published work. Good thinking - a website is the most fundamental marketing tool an author can have. A well-designed website is an affordable and highly effective tool that will reinforce any book marketing program of any author.

From flamboyant, flash-and-java-enhanced sites to simpler, static sites, author and book websites come in many incarnations. If you’re working with a tight budget, however, here’s a simple guide to creating a simple-yet-effective author and book website.

Basic Page Layout

First, it’s highly important to study the characteristics of your book’s target market and pattern your design layout and copywriting after the results of your study. For instance, if your book is a teen romance novel (which has a market composed mostly of teenage females), your website’s dominant colors would be better off reflecting the preferred colors of females that belong to the 13-19-year age range.

Home page - The opening page of your site. The design and content plays a very integral part in web design, and never more so than in the construction of the “Home” page. The “Home” page is where you welcome site visitors and introduce them to the site and its features. This is where you get your first crack at capturing the interest of the site visitors, so make sure make good of your chance. For author websites, it’s very important for the author to connect to the site visitors right away, so make sure you charm the visitors with your words!

About the Book page - This is where the blurb or book description of the book is posted. How important is the blurb? Well, a blurb has the power to entice or repel a potential reader of a book. A well-written blurb can instantly turn a reader into a compulsive buyer, while a badly-written, uninspired blurb can make the reader yawn and forget your book. It’s that simple. Make it a priority to post a well-written blurb on the back jacket cover and website of your book.

Excerpt - An ideal book website should have an excerpt page. Just like what teaser trailers do for movies, excerpts give the readers a sample of what’s in store for them should they decide to purchase your book. In short, excerpts whet the appetites of the readers, so picking the right excerpt page is of paramount importance.

So, when choosing the excerpt contents, pick the body of text that will capture the readers and leave them wanting for more. It may consist of a solitary page, or perhaps even a whole chapter - the important thing is to captivate the reader and compel them to read the entirety of your book.

Blog page - An “author blog” is one of the most effective - and perhaps most underrated - book marketing tools in the current book marketing landscape. While many authors are not aware of this, a well-designed and frequently updated blog webpage effectively translates into avid reader patronage. The reason is this: books that capture a reader’s interest do not go unremembered, and neither does the author who wrote it.

Enamored readers want to get involved. A memorable reading experience makes readers want to know the author, as well as the book’s themes, and back story. They want to know the current and upcoming projects of the author who has so effectively captured their imagination and touched their emotions. As mentioned earlier, they want to be involved. A website blog will take care of this area with optimum effect.

Order page - Once you’ve succeeded in enticing the site visitors to buy your published work, they will want to know how they can order your book. Make sure your website smoothly facilitates your would-be readers in this area by featuring your website with links to bookstores that sell your book (the more the better).

The question of whether small business owners should hire a professional website designer or build their own websites using do-it-yourself software boils down to four primary considerations:

1) Site Ownership: Generally speaking, when a person creates a do-it-yourself business website they are bound by the terms of use of their hosting website. In most cases such sites stipulate that all rights to the materials on the small business owner’s website actually belong to the host! That means that if the business owner ever wanted to upgrade his or her site to a custom design or migrate the site material to a new host they would not be allowed to do so!

When you build a do-it-yourself website you are locked into the site and the host contractually and the provider never has to let you transfer your website contents. In fact, there are often service cancellation fees of up to $300!

This is not the case with custom designed websites. A good web development company will provide you with all the files you need in order to edit or transfer your site as you see fit at no charge to you. You should not generally be required to pay any fees beyond the design and setup price.

2) Price: On an upfront cost basis do-it-yourself websites are cheaper. Business owners can enroll in most build-your-own-website service plans for about $20 to $30 per month. In many cases there are no upfront charges and you only get hit with big bills when you opt to cancel later on down the road.

On the other hand, website designers generally charge you for their services upfront or over the course of your website, logo or graphic design development project. Web design fees will vary widely from one provider to the next and from one project to the next. The benefits of having a custom site build that you own are that you won’t have to pay the designer a monthly fee and you should have complete control over what you do with your site after it is completed.

3) Uniqueness of your Company Image: One of the key drawbacks of do-it-yourself websites is that business owners are often given limited options as to what templates they can use and how they can modify those templates. This can result in two or more different companies having essentially the same website.

This issue is not all-together remedied by using professional web designers. Many companies provide template based products because it allows their clients to more easily envision what the end product might look like. Template based sites also tend to be less expensive to customize and thus the clients can have them designed at lower prices.

You as a buyer should always pay attention to whether you are receiving a ‘customized’ website or a ‘custom’ website. Customized websites are template based. There is nothing wrong with starting from a template but generally you should expect to pay less for this service than you would for a fully custom website design.

4) Appearance and Quality: If you secure the services of a skilled and reliable web development company then you should almost universally receive a higher quality, better looking, website via a professional design than you would using a do-it-yourself website. There’s virtually no debating this matter.

In the end, whether you should choose a build-it-yourself website or a professional designed website is a matter of personal preferences. You should review your options and your circumstances and then make the decision that best suits your needs.

Step 2: Convert both videos to Flash format

Step 3: View conversion results

Step 4: Open HTML page

Step 5: Add second player to the HTML page

Step 6: Change player positions and add text to the HTML page

Introduction

Video to Flash Converter allows you to create Flash video and a sample HTML page with the built-in player to help you playback the converted video on your blog or web-page. That’s great, but… What if you need more than one video on one and the same page? No problem. A few simple steps and you’ll get what you need. Just follow the instructions below to learn how to place two videos on a single page.

Step 1: Download and install Video to Flash Converter
Click to download it. After the download is finished, run the VideotoFlash.exe file and follow the installation wizard instructions.

Step 2: Convert both videos to Flash format
After you install Video to Flash Converter, run it, load one of the videos you would like to place on your web-page into the program and convert it to .flv format. Follow the instructions given in the How can I convert video for a web page? guide to do this.

Note: when configuring conversion parameters, check the Create SWF player and HTML page for web sharing option. In this case the program will create a folder with the converted FLV file, as well a player and an HTML page with the built-in player. The name of the folder coincides with the input file name. If you do not check this option, no folder will be created, the program will generate only the output video.

When the conversion is over, the following window will be automatically opened:
Press the Continue button to convert the second video.

Step 3: View conversion results
During the conversion Video to Flash Converter creates a separate folder for each converted video with all the necessary contents including the Flash video file itself, the information about the player used for its playback, an HTML page with the built-in player etc. See How can I place a video onto my web-page? Step 3 to find detailed description of the files this folder contains and their functions.

Since we converted two videos, two separate folders will be created on your computer.

Step 4: Open HTML page
Open any of the two created folders, next find and open the index.htm page using a web editor.

Note: if your web editor has two modes - ‘Design’ mode and ‘Source’ editing mode (or something like that), you need to choose the source editing mode to be able to see and change the page markup.

The contents between the tags displays player ID. Any word can be used to define the ID parameter. The only requirement is that it should be unique for each particular player on a page and coincide with the so.write parameter of the player.

The contents between the tags displays all player parameters. The so.addVariable “file” line contains the link to the created Flash video. The so.addVariable “theme” line is the name of the player skin.

Step 5: Add second player to the HTML page
To add a new player to your page:

Open the other folder, then find and open the index.htm page in a web editor.

Copy the contents between the opening and the closing tags from the index.htm page you have just opened to clipboard.

Paste the copied material to the other index.htm page below the closing tag.

Change the ID parameter of the second player (the one located below). Use any word you like to definde the ID. Delete the word that appears in inverted commas and type in your own. For example, change it to flashcontent1.

Change the so.write parameter of the second player accordingly. Use the same word you typed in the ID field.

Copy the second video to the folder with the modified index.htm page. Make sure that both the converted video files with .flv extension, as well as the modified index.htm page are located in one and the same folder now.

Step 6: Change player positions and add text to the HTML page
Well, the page with the desired videos is created, but it looks somewhat dull - no text that would accompany your video. To make the page you created more personal use the tips below:

Change the title of the page. To do it, simply type in your own title between the tags.

Add text to your page.

Change player position.

Now you will need to upload your created page and ALL the contents of the folder with the modified index.htm page to your server using an FTP-client.

Do not forget to send the link to the page with your video to all your friends!

By John Timber

Here’s one immutable fact about the Internet: Things change fast. What’s cool today may be cold tomorrow. The things that are working this year may seem laughable within another two years. Nothing stands still. That includes the way you should be building websites. Yesterday’s systems aren’t well-suited for today. Those website building tutorials from a few years ago shouldn’t be the kind of reference material upon which you rely today.

What’s changed? Just about everything. Over the past few years, we’ve developed an entirely new set of expectations with respect to website appearance, organization and function. An Internet that was dominated by colorful but limited single-page “home pages” has been replaced by a million different blogs, the entire “web 2.0″ movement, increased focus on usability and countless innovations.

If you want to build a website that will succeed in the current environment, you don’t want to rely on advice from five years ago. You don’t want to rely on advice from one year ago, for that matter. The changing landscape of the Internet renders almost all older website building tutorials completely outdated.

There is some core information that will remain valid and usable. However, when it comes to site building, the devil truly is in the details. Those details can make a break a site and they’re not always based on logic of design. They can be as much a matter of trend and aesthetic expectation as usability or function.

As such, even a “mechanically sound” tutorial can be a mistake. The information contained within it might provide you with still-valid “nuts and bolts” instruction, but the failure to adhere to new expectations regarding content presentation and design can lead you in the wrong direction. In order to create a site that will work today, you need to follow recent advice.

There are few things that change as quickly as our expectations and norms for Internet use. Here’s the bottom line. If you want to create a website that will perform well enough to meet your goals, the only way to do it is to understand the current Internet landscape. If you’re relying on website tutorials to help you in that regard, you must make use the latest information.

This look at website building tutorials only skims the surface of a deep pool of valuable information. Take advantage of this opportunity to plunge even deeper into website building tutorials. You’ll love what you find there.

I personally recommend this site:

Dreamweaver is one of the most widely used and effective website designing tool that scores over HTML coding. This software helps the user by creating many codes, useful for those who don’t know about code business and also for those having knowledge about HTML coding can add more value to it.

The user can simultaneously see the code view as well as the design view, the website design service provider can keep both the views (the code view & design view) on similar window for keeping the tabs.
There are a lot of different aspects that go into website design, and while including as many features as you can might seem like a good idea at first, this can quickly lead to a cluttered website. On a similar note, too few features can make a site look bare, which will cause most users to simply hit their “back” button. Having the right balance of key components of a site and extra features is a good way to attract users, and in this article we’ll go over some of the things your site should always include, and some of the things you can skip.

Navigation bars are popular features in website design that make sites easy to move around in and give the site a sort of professional quality. You might also try using images as links to different aspects of your site, or have the entire site contained within a Java or Flash application for a unique approach to how it looks. If you do use an applet for the main part of your site, be careful with how you use audio such as music and sound effects, as well as moving objects and animations, as these can make websites seem overly busy and cluttered. If you use animations for navigation, like when a user moves between two parts of a site, keep them short and simple, otherwise they can quickly become annoying. When in doubt, keep it as simple as possible.

Your site should also have contact information if it is for a business or a personal news bulletin like a blog or family chat center. Keeping this contact information limited depending on how you want it used is important, and you should never post a personal phone number on the internet unless you want a lot of advertisements or potentially harassing calls. Having a support e-mail for a business or a personal e-mail for a personal website is a good website design idea, but you should present e-mail addresses like this: yourname [at] suchandsuch.com. This will keep automated programs that look for e-mails from sending you spam.

There are a lot of different website design ideas that you may or may not need for your website, and ultimately it’s up to you to decide what your site needs and doesn’t. The main thing to keep in mind is that simple, easy to use sites are most popular with users.
